History
John C. Anderson and a group of investors started Roebuck Buildings in 1947, a time when the pre-engineered building industry was still in its infancy. As the market matured, the company found major success in the construction of warehouses and large retail buildings across the Southeast — from Virginia all the way to Florida. By the mid-1980s, Roebuck Buildings began its transformation into a full-service contractor, but this was hardly the end of the story.
Like many other companies at this time, Roebuck Buildings found itself at a crossroads due to the tightening of the building market. The company had grown too large to compete with the small firms, yet it was too small to go head to head with those tackling larger, more complex projects. With John Anderson planning his retirement, his son Dean would soon become the new president and CEO.
“We had to make a decision whether to scale back or grow,” says Dean Anderson, reflecting on that period. “We chose the latter and decided to expand into a completely different kind of company.” To accomplish that, Roebuck Buildings began computerizing its operations and developing computer-aided design capabilities. The company grew its personnel department by bringing in additional team members with extensive experience and expertise in general construction.
Today, the Roebuck Buildings logo graces a wide variety of construction sites across the Southeast, from industrial buildings to retail space — and everything in between. Our company continues to embrace the challenges of the changing construction industry, and pledges to continually work to refine our capabilities in order to build better.
